In 2001, Chubu Electric Power Company (“Chubu”) began participation in the Ratchaburi Gas Thermal IPP project in Thailand making this its first overseas power generation project. The project, located in Ratchaburi Province (approx. 140km west of Bangkok) constructed and operates a gas thermal combined-cycle power plant with an output of 1,400MW. Construction began in February 2006, with the first unit beginning operations in March 2008 and the second unit in June of the same year.
A 25-year power purchase agreement is concluded with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Thailand’s state-run electricity enterprise, and is expected to generate stable revenue over the long term.
