Umm Al Houl Gas Thermal IWPP Project QATAR

In May 2015, Tokyo Electric Power Company (since renamed and referred to herein as “TEPCO”) and Mitsubishi Corporation in cooperation with Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC), Qatar Petroleum (now Qatar Energy), and Qatar Foundation (QF) agreed to a 25-year long term power and water purchase agreement with the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to sell electricity and water. The project company, Umm Al Houl Power have completed construction of gas thermal power generation plants (2,520MW) and water desalination facilities (daily output of 620,000 tons) 20km south of the Qatari capital, Doha and started to operate, maintain the facilities and supply electricity and water for 25 years.
In addition, an expansion of the water desalination facilities (daily output of 280,000 tons) was completed, and water desalination volume increased to 900,000 tons/day in April 2021.
JERA succeeded to this project from TEPCO Fuel & Power in July 2016.
