JERA Begins Supplying Electricity to Facilities at Six Prestige International BPO Sites, Through an Offsite Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Utilizing Solar Power2025/04/16

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”), as part of an effort to move toward zero-CO2 emissions power consumption at all business processing outsourcing (“BPO”) sites run by Prestige International (“PI”), began supplying electricity from offsite solar power facilities to PI’s Iwate BPO Fortress on 1 June 2024. (See 3 June 2024 press release)
JERA hereby announces that it has newly begun supplying electricity to facilities at six PI BPO sites in Japan, through an offsite corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) *1 utilizing solar power.

PI, a BPO company whose group philosophy is “to listen to end-user (consumer) inconveniences and troubles, engage in business creation that will lead to solutions, and grow as a company that contributes by providing solutions to social issues through that development,” and JERA, a company whose mission is to provide cutting-edge solutions to the world’s energy issues, are helping to reduce the environmental impact on local communities through initiatives such as the introduction of solar power at Iwate BPO Fortress.

JERA, through its subsidiary JERA Cross Co., Inc. (“JERA Cross”) *2, will supply electricity generated at JERA-owned solar power plants (in either the Tohoku or Chubu areas) to facilities at six PI BPO sites (5 in the Tohoku area, 1 in the Hokuriku area).
As a result, approximately 30% of the electricity used in the Tohoku area will be sourced from renewable energy (raw green power*3) derived from solar power plants. The remaining electricity will be sourced from solar power plants in the Chubu area or procured from the market. Going forward, JERA will, though its subsidiary JERA Cross, gradually introduce 24/7 carbon-free electricity*4 at all of PI’s BPO sites.

Through such efforts to move toward zero-CO2 emissions at BPO sites, JERA will continue working to achieve sustainable local communities.

Visualization of Electricity Supply Proportions and CO2 Reduction at PI BPO Sites

*1 An offsite corporate PPA is a mechanism through which an electricity producer provides a long-term supply of environmental value created at a solar power plant or similar facility sited somewhere other than on the premises of the electricity consumer.

*2 JERA Cross helps corporate customers design visions of their future Green Transformation (GX) and formulate strategies for achieving it. It also provides integrated support, from development through supply, for the renewable energy needed for electricity decarbonization. Furthermore, by achieving a stable supply of electricity that emits no CO2 twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, JERA Cross contributes to solving corporate challenges, to business transformation, and to reducing CO2 emissions. *3   Raw green power refers to electricity generated from non-fossil sources such as solar power and supplied together with its non-fossil value (the environmental value associated with not producing CO2).

*4   24/7 carbon-free electricity is a name for electricity that emits no CO2 twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. In accordance with the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry's "Guidelines for Retail Sales of Electricity," this means that 100% of demand is met through electricity that is generated through a mix of zero-CO2 emission power sources (renewable energy generation facilities and hydrogen power generation facilities) and supplied together with the environmental value derived from the use of non-fossil certificates. It does not mean that no CO2 is emitted across the fuel lifecycle including production and transportation.
