Toho and JERA Sign a Memorandum of Understanding to Decarbonize Film Production2021/12/17

Toho Co., Ltd. (“Toho”) and JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) to work together to reduce CO2 emissions from film production as part of an effort to decarbonize the entertainment industry.

 

In this MOU, Toho, a leading company in the domestic entertainment sector centered on film, and JERA, a company making pioneering efforts to achieve zero CO2 emissions in the energy sector, will bring their respective strengths together to work toward achieving zero CO2 emissions in film production. Specifically, Toho and JERA will explore possibilities for cooperation in the following areas:

 

 ・Drawing up a decarbonization roadmap for Toho as a whole.

 ・Securing zero CO2 emissions energy based on the roadmap

 ・Communicating the two companies’ decarbonization initiatives through entertainment

 

This MOU covers cooperation between major companies in different industries, namely the energy and entertainment sectors. The two companies believe that pursuing zero CO2 emissions in film production through this MOU will create synergies that lead to business area expansion and promote a greater understanding of decarbonization.

 

Toho aims to be a corporate group that continuously provides the best entertainment to the world by always taking the customer's point of view and proposing fresh plans that meet the trends of the times. As part of these efforts, Toho will work to achieve zero CO2 emissions in film production, leading the decarbonization of the entertainment industry and enhancing its enterprise value.

 

In order to achieve its “JERA Zero CO2 Emissions 2050” objective, JERA will continue to pursue various efforts both with energy industry counterparts and with leading companies from other industries in Japan and overseas while striving to create new value.
