Conclusion of Memorandum with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) on Cooperation in LNG Business2015/07/10

JERA Co., Inc. has today concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) regarding cooperation in the LNG business. This MOU is based on the MOU previously concluded between Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated and EGAT in May this year. JERA and EGAT intend to implement activities such as mutual personnel exchanges, with a focus on the LNG procurement, LNG receiving terminals and LNG-based power generation.

It is the mission of JERA to provide a stable supply of energy on an internationally competitive basis, and it is indispensable for JERA to have the ability to compete worldwide in order to fulfill this mission. JERA has, therefore, been making efforts to expand its business domain, enlarge its business scale, and optimize its supply chain, applying the technical and commercial capabilities fostered by Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. in the entire energy supply chain from upstream investment and fuel procurement through power generation.

JERA believes that building this cooperative relationship with EGAT, which includes joint study of establishing an LNG business encompassing LNG procurement to power generation in Thailand, is aligned with the JERA’s efforts to position itself as a global energy company with a strong competitive position throughout the energy supply chain. This cooperative relationship is a first step as JERA continues to develop its LNG business portfolio throughout the supply chain.

JERA is continuously committed to contributing to the stable supply of energy on an internationally competitive basis and, at the same time, to increasing its enterprise value.
