JERA to be Featured in "Energy Frontline: Japan" – a new Documentary Series Highlighting Japan’s Energy Supply2026/04/28

JERA Co., Inc. (JERA), Japan’s largest power generator, supplying approximately one-third of the country’s electricity, today announced a collaboration with Discovery—a global leader in factual content—on Energy Frontline: Japan, a three-part documentary series highlighting the frontline of Japan’s energy supply.

The first episode is scheduled to air on April 29 in Southeast Asia and on May 6 in Japan. The series will also be broadcast in select countries in Europe. (See below for broadcast schedule.)

At a time when energy systems around the world are under growing pressure to balance energy security, affordability, and decarbonization, understanding how energy is supplied and how it evolves has become increasingly important. This new series provides a rare behind-the-scenes view of the people, operations, and responsibilities behind an essential service that supports everyday life and economic activity, while deepening understanding of practical pathways toward a lower-carbon future.  

The first episode focuses on LNG-fired thermal power generation, which continues to play an indispensible role in supporting Japan’s energy supply. It follows frontline operations, including the berthing of an LNG tanker and maintenance work at a domestic power station, and captures the scale, precision, and daily efforts required to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity.

Energy Frontline: Japan will be released over three years, with each episode focusing on a different energy solution and offering audiences an insight into JERA’s strategies of LNG, hydrogen and ammonia, and renewable energy. The series will explore how Japan’s energy supply is supported today and how it is evolving toward the future.
