Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm Begins its Commercial Operations in Taiwan2023/09/08

 

JERA announces that its second offshore wind project in Taiwan, Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm, achieved the great accomplishment of commercial operations today (September 8), officially marking the commencement of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) phase, a pivotal moment for this project-financed investment. JERA has been instrumental in steering the project to success, contributing invaluable expertise, leadership and commitment which serves as a clear indicator of our capabilities, setting the stage for future projects globally.

 

Nathalie Oosterlinck, Managing Executive Officer, the Head of Global Renewable Energy at JERA, remarked, “The realization of commercial operations for Formosa 2 represents a triumph of collective effort, and unwavering resilience. Throughout our deep involvement, JERA has built a diverse and experienced team with strong expertise in the offshore wind market. Building on this foundation, we anticipate expanding our renewable energy activities and projects across worldwide including Asia.

With JERA’s concurrent engagement in the Formosa 1 Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan and the achievement of Formosa 2, which is the first large offshore wind farm project to reach commercial operations in Taiwan’s Round 2 development, marks another stride in JERA's ongoing dedication to nurturing a sustainable society. Collaborating with JERA’s joint-venture partners, JERA reaffirms its commitment to the enduring operations of both Formosa 1 and Formosa 2 in Taiwan. Furthermore, complemented by the collaborative partnerships JERA has established worldwide, the company is driving momentum toward achieving its goal of Zero CO2 emissions by 2050.

About Formosa 2

The Formosa 2 Offshore Wind Farm project is being jointly developed by JERA (49%), Macquarie Asset Management's Green Investment Group (26%) and Synera Renewable Energy (25%). GIG is supported by its portfolio company, Corio Generation. Formosa 2 has an installed capacity of 376 MW. All 47 turbines were installed in January 2023 and have been connected to the grid since March 2023, supplying power to approximately 380,000 households per year.
