JERA and Akita Bank Sign MOU on Achieving Sustainable Regional Development in Akita Prefecture2026/10/22

The Akita Bank,Ltd. (Akita Bank) and JERA Co., Inc. (JERA) have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on a comprehensive partnership aimed at achieving sustainable regional development in Akita Prefecture.

In recent years, Japan’s population decline, falling birthrate, and aging population have been accompanied by labor shortages in local industries and a contraction of regional economies. In addition, promoting the energy transition to achieve carbon neutrality and strengthening regional resilience have become important societal challenges. Akita Prefecture faces these same challenges, and there is a need to leverage abundant local resources such as renewable energy to achieve both sustainable regional development and regional economic stimulation.

The purpose of the MOU is for both companies to work together to address these societal challenges by promoting the use of renewable energy in Akita Prefecture, fostering related industries, strengthening community disaster resilience, promoting local industries, and increasing the visiting population through development that enhances regional appeal.

Akita Bank, under its management philosophy of shared regional prosperity and as a financial institution grounded in Akita Prefecture, works to address regional and environmental challenges and to provide financial and non-financial services that meet the needs of its customers. Through these efforts, it has cultivated a broad network and gained expertise in addressing challenges.

JERA, under its mission “to provide cutting-edge solutions to the world’s energy issues,” aims to achieve both energy supply stability and decarbonization. Drawing on the expertise, technologies, and networks developed through its power generation, fuel, and renewable energy businesses, it supports efforts to address the decarbonization- and energy-related challenges faced by regions and businesses and works to create new value within regions.

Under the framework of this MOU, the two companies will cooperate in drawing on their respective strengths, expertise, and networks to invigorate the region and achieve sustainable regional development while making the most of Akita Prefecture’s abundant local resources and renewable energy potential.
