JERA Announces Update to Planned Transfer of Participating Interests in the Ichthys LNG Project2026/09/25

JERA Co., Inc. (JERA) today announced an update to the previously announced transfer of its interests in the Ichthys LNG Project, held through its subsidiary JERA Australia Pty Ltd. The interest will be transferred to Australian subsidiaries of INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX), following INPEX’s exercise of its pre-emptive rights to acquire JERA’s participating interest in this project. 

On March 12, 2026, JERA announced that it had agreed to transfer its interest in the Ichthys LNG Project (0.735%) and the Gorgon LNG Project (0.417%) to MidOcean Energy (announcement here). During the transaction process, INPEX exercised its pre-emptive rights under the applicable shareholders’ agreement with respect to JERA’s interest in the Ichthys LNG Project. The planned transfer of JERA’s interest in the Gorgon LNG Project to MidOcean Energy remains unchanged.

The transfer of JERA’s interest in the Ichthys LNG Project will have no impact on JERA’s LNG procurement. As part of its commitment to supporting Japan’s energy security, JERA will continue to procure LNG from the Ichthys LNG Project under its existing LNG sale and purchase agreements. JERA will also continue to procure LNG from the Gorgon LNG Project following completion of the previously announced transfer of its interest in that project.
