JERA and AboitizPower Mark First Anniversary of Global Technical Center of Excellence2026/09/08

JERA Co., Inc. (JERA), a global energy leader, today announced that it marked the first anniversary of the Global Technical Center of Excellence (GTCOE), a joint training facility established with the Philippines’ leading power company, AboitizPower Corporation (AboitizPower) in Batangas, Philippines, during a ceremony held on September 7. President of the Philippines, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. joined AboitizPower and JERA representatives in commemorating the milestone during his visit to the facility.

Launched on September 8, 2025, the GTCOE serves as a hub for developing world-class technical talents across both companies to support the broader energy industry.

Since its launch, GTCOE has provided training and capability development opportunities to approximately 2,000 participants from AboitizPower and JERA.

Through its flagship Basic Operations & Maintenance Program, GTCOE has produced 79 graduates to date.

Beyond classroom learning, GTCOE provides trainees with hands-on experience at operating power plants, applying their learnings in real-world environments.

During his presidential message at the anniversary event, President Marcos commended AboitizPower and JERA for their accomplishments over the past year, highlighting GTCOE’s role in developing well-rounded energy professionals.

"GTCOE reflects what can be achieved when organizations come together with a shared commitment to developing people and supporting the future of the energy industry. Beyond technical skills, it provides participants with opportunities to broaden their perspectives, learn from different experiences, and build relationships across borders. These are capabilities that will become increasingly important as the energy industry continues to evolve. We are proud of the progress achieved in GTCOE's first year and look forward to building on this foundation together with AboitizPower in the years ahead,” said Hisahide Okuda, JERA President, Director, CEO, & COO.

With rising electricity demand in Japan, the Philippines and across Asia, the industry will require a strong pipeline of highly skilled technical professionals. As GTCOE enters its second year, it will explore opportunities to engage local universities, professional organizations, local government, along with other industry and institutional groups while further strengthening its role as a platform for technical capability development and knowledge sharing.
