Submission, Public Inspection, and Public Meetings on the Draft Environmental Impact Assessment for the Chita Thermal Power Station Units 7 and 8 Construction Plan2024/10/17
JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”), pursuant to the Environmental Impact Assessment Act and the Electricity Business Act, has today submitted the Draft Environmental Impact Assessment for the Chita Thermal Power Station Units 7 and 8 Construction Plan*1 (the “Draft EIA”) to the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, the Governor of Aichi Prefecture, the Mayor of Chita City, and the Mayor of Tōkai City.
The Chita Thermal Power Station Units 7 and 8 Construction Plan (the “Plan”) described in the Draft EIA involves decommissioning units 1 through 5 of the existing six units (while retaining unit 6) and constructing new units 7 and 8. By adopting the latest high-efficiency combined cycle power generation system (with gross thermal efficiency of approximately 64%*2) for new units 7 and 8, the Plan serves to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, after the Plan has been carried out, the environmental burden due to smoke and warm wastewater is expected to be lower than when operating the existing facility.
The Draft EIA summarizes our approach to environmental conservation, presenting the results of surveys, forecasts, evaluations, and a consideration of environmental conservation measures. It will be made available for public inspection at related administrative bodies from 18 October; a public meeting will be held to explain the Draft EIA on 31 October.
People with opinions on the Draft EIA from the standpoint of environmental conservation are invited to drop them in boxes available at the public inspection locations or to send them to us by post.
JERA will continue to move forward with procedures under the Environmental Impact Assessment Act, guided by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry and other related authorities and taking into consideration feedback from the local community.
*1 The third of four phases stipulated under the Environmental Impact Assessment Act.
*2 Thermal efficiency is based on the lower heating value (LHV) standard.
