Measures to Address Supply and Demand during the FY 2024 Heavy-Load Summer Season2024/06/27

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) hereby announces that, based on the summer electricity supply-demand outlook for FY 2024, it has drawn up measures to address the heavy-load summer season (July 2024 to September 2024).

The 75th meeting of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry’s Electricity and Gas Basic Policy Subcommittee, held on 2 June, indicated this summer’s electricity supply-demand forecast and put together measures to address supply and demand for the summer of FY 2024.
JERA, to avoid fuel constraints and an electricity supply-demand crunch this summer, is moving forward with the following measures to secure kW (to secure power supply capacity, conduct targeted inspections of power generation facilities, etc.) and kWh (to secure fuel).

1.    Measures to Secure kW
•     Securing Power Supply Capacity

To secure power supply capacity for the summer of FY 2024, JERA plans wherever possible to avoid scheduling thermal power plant repairs and inspections during the summer.
JERA is securing power supply capacity by moving steadily forward with the construction of state-of-the-art thermal power stations as part of planned replacements. In August, we plan to begin operation of Goi Thermal Power Station Unit 1 (Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture) through our subsidiary Goi United Generation LLC.

•     Targeted Inspections of Power Generation Facilities
In addition to strengthening internal systems, JERA is working to mitigate the risk of power facility outages though soundness checks and targeted patrols of boilers and other priority equipment.

2. Measures to Secure kWh
•    Securing Fuel

While major concerns have not been found for securing fuels during the peak demand period in summer, JERA is working to quickly grasp changes in electricity supply-demand and, by optimizing flexible procurement and resale through its subsidiary JERA Global Markets Pte. Ltd, to secure a stable supply of fuel.

Through these measures to secure both kW and kWh, the JERA group is making every effort to secure a stable supply of energy.
