Commercial Operation Begins at Yokosuka Thermal Power Station Unit 22023/12/22

Yokosuka Thermal Power Station Unit 2, which JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) has been replacing through its subsidiary JERA Power Yokosuka G.K., has begun commercial operation today. As a result, all of the units in Yokosuka Thermal Power Station are under commercial operation.

The Unit 2 is a high-efficiency coal-fired power station that uses an ultra-supercritical (USC) power generation system. Its generating capacity of approximately 650MW will contribute to a stable electricity supply. JERA starts the commenced operation of Unit 2 ahead of the original schedule, which was February 2024, in order to contribute to supply capacity this winter.

JERA will continue to move steadily forward in replacing aging equipment with state-of-the-art power stations as it works to contribute to a stable electricity supply and reduce CO2 emissions.
