JERA to Participate in the El Sauz Wind Power Project in Texas in the United States2021/12/02

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) has decided to participate, through a subsidiary, in the El Sauz Wind Power Project in Texas in the United States (the “Project”), and concluded a stock purchase agreement with Apex Clean Energy Finance, LLC, a subsidiary of Apex Clean Energy, to acquire a 100% share of the Project.

 

The Project will construct, own, and operate an approximately 300MW onshore wind farm in Willacy County, Texas. Construction will begin in early 2022 with operation scheduled to start in the last quarter of the year.

 

In 2020, JERA established JERA Renewables NA, LLC ("JERA Renewables NA") under JERA Americas Inc. ("JERA Americas") to develop renewable energy projects in the United States. The experienced team of experts at JERA Renewables NA has been developing a pipeline of renewable energy projects in the country; the Project will be the company’s first in operation.

 

JERA is working to expand its renewable energy business with a target of reaching 5GW capacity by fiscal 2025. A pipeline of renewable energy projects is being developed In the United States against a background of policies that support the introduction of renewable energy. JERA Renewable NA is working to develop approximately 2GW of JERA’s overall 5GW target. In addition, JERA Americas will consider selling electricity for a variety of customer needs.
