JERA Announces Start of Commercial Operations at Cogeneration Facility in Thailand2017/01/04

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) is pleased to announce that a cogeneration (combined heat and power, or CHP) facility in which it participates, and jointly developed with local partners, started commercial operations on 29 December 2016.

Located at the Bangpoo Industrial Estate about 30km southeast of Bangkok, the cogeneration facility has a power generation capacity of 240 MW and a steam production capacity of 60 tons/hour.

Under the SPP Program1, the operating company sells electricity produced by the project to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under a 25-year electric power purchase agreement, while also selling electricity and steam directly to customers in the industrial estate.

This is the second cogeneration facility in which JERA participates to have begun commercial operations, following the Lat Krabang Cogeneration Power Plant in Thailand.

Going forward, JERA will work with the operating company to ensure the cogeneration facility’s stable operation while also applying expertise gained through processes such as customer acquisition to JERA’s other businesses in order to further enhance its corporate value.

  • 1SPP Program (Small Power Producers Program)

A program under which EGAT provides long-term guarantees to purchase electric power at a preferential price from small-scale cogeneration projects that meet certain conditions for power generating efficiency, etc.
