JERA Announces the Signing of a Basic Agreement with the Yamato Group Related to Collaboration on Renewable Energy Equipment and its Optimal Utilization Aimed at Achieving Decarbonization of Logistics2025/01/08
JERA Co., Inc (“JERA”) hereby announces that it has signed a basic agreement with Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. (“Yamato Transport”) related to collaboration on renewable energy equipment and its optimal utilization aimed at achieving decarbonization of logistics.
The Yamato Group has established the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and a 48% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (relative to 2020) by 2030. Major initiatives aimed at achieving these goals include efforts to introduce 23,500 electric vehicles, to install solar power generation equipment at 810 locations, and to raise its rate of renewable energy use to 70%.
Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd., seeking to enhance its energy procurement capabilities and to diversify its sources, and also to contribute to achieving corporate decarbonization through the stable supply of renewable energy to the Yamato Group and other vehicle-using businesses, on 7 January 2025 established Yamato Energy Management, Co., Ltd. as a new company to conduct its electricity business.
Under the basic agreement with Yamato Transport, JERA’s subsidiary JERA Cross, acting as an aggregation coordinator,*1 will support Yamato Energy Management in managing supply and demand operations to maintain a balanced volume of renewable and other energy on both the demand and supply sides.
In addition, tracking renewable energy from electric vehicles and solar power generating equipment used at the sales locations of the Yamato Group and other vehicle-using businesses will enable more deliberate and efficient utilization of renewable energy. Looking further to the future, we aim to achieve decarbonization of logistics by supplying the Yamato Group with 24/7 carbon-free energy.*2
JERA will, through its efforts with the Yamato Group to achieve decarbonization of logistics, contribute to achieving a sustainable, carbon-neutral society.
