PT JERA Energi Indonesia Begins Operations as JERA’s Base of Operations in Indonesia2023/08/09

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) announces today the start of full-scale operations by PT JERA Energi Indonesia (“JERA EI”), the subsidiary it established in Jakarta to serve as its base of operations in Indonesia.
 

The Republic of Indonesia ("Indonesia”), with its healthy economic growth and steadily increasing electrification rate, is expected to see continued increases in its demand for electricity. At the same time, because Indonesia is highly reliant on coal-fired thermal power generation, there is concern that its growing demand for electricity will lead to higher emissions of greenhouse gases. Achieving both a stable supply of electricity to sustain economic growth and decarbonization is a major challenge.  

JERA, as part of our JERA Zero CO2 Emissions 2050 objective, is working with stakeholders to draw up optimal decarbonization roadmaps that account for the situation in each country or region. In Indonesia, too, we are helping to draw up a decarbonization roadmap that defines the energy mix and power supply system that the country should aim for (25 Nov. 2021 press release).

As JERA’s base of operations in Indonesia, JERA EI will be responsible for market research based on the analysis in the country’s decarbonation roadmap, for examination and selection of partner companies, and for information-gathering, evaluation, and consideration of IPP,¹ LNG-to-power,² renewable energy, and other projects. In addition, it will pursue business opportunities broadly by building relationships with related ministries and agencies and with Indonesia’s state-owned power company and other local energy companies.
