Collaboration with PTT on Building a Hydrogen and Ammonia Supply Chain for Decarbonization of Thailand2023/05/09

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PTT Public Company Limited ("PTT"), a state enterprise operating petroleum and related businesses under the Energy Ministry of Thailand to collaborate on initiatives for expanding the supply chain and usage of hydrogen and ammonia towards decarbonization in Thailand.

The Memorandum of Understanding stipulates that JERA and PTT will jointly consider the following hydrogen and ammonia related activities:
・Study on the development of supply chain for hydrogen and ammonia in Thailand
・Evaluation of feasibility of ammonia cracking technology as a means of supplying hydrogen to Thailand
・Consideration of joint development of hydrogen/ammonia upstream business or investment opportunities assuming supply to Thailand

Thailand has declared in its National Energy Plan that it will be carbon neutral by 2050 and achieve net zero by 2065 – to reach these targets, the country is expected to strengthen cooperation with Japan on decarbonization technologies, including hydrogen and ammonia.

PTT has set a target of Net Zero Emissions by 2050 in accordance with the National Energy Plan, achieving carbon neutral 2050 and net zero by 2065. To reach these targets, PTT intends to strengthen cooperation with Japan on decarbonization technologies, including hydrogen and ammonia.

JERA is striving to build and expand the global supply chain for clean fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia. Under the JERA ZERO Emissions 2050 plan JERA will collaborate on initiatives that contribute to the decarbonatization of Thailand. Working together with PTT we believe we can expand this hydrogen and ammonia vision to also support Thailand’s decarbonization.

Thus, under the JERA ZERO Emissions 2050 plan, JERA providing cutting-edge solution to the world’s energy problems will contribute to the sound growth as well as green energy development of Thailand and other Asian countries with the renewable energy and low-carbon thermal power.
