Conclusion of a Service Agreement with Atsuma Town for the Management and Operation of an Energy-Related “Local Production for Local Protection” Project2022/10/03

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”), through the Consortium for the Creation of Energy and Disaster-Prevention Industries—of which it is a representative member—signed a service agreement on 1 October 2022 with the town of Atsuma in Yufutsu District, Hokkaido, for the management and operation of an energy-related “local production for local protection” project to be implemented by the town.

Atsuma sustained serious damage during the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake of September 2018 and, given this experience, is seeking to strengthen its disaster management capabilities. The project aims to ensure the stable operation of renewable energy and other equipment installed at public facilities in Atsuma, to limit greenhouse gas emissions from these facilities, and to secure energy for use in the event of a disaster through arrays of large storage batteries.

JERA will provide operational support, including drawing up work plans for energy management utilizing the renewable energy and other equipment installed by Atsuma.

The project is an effort to strengthen disaster prevention capability based on disaster experience, and it is highly compatible with JERA's mission of providing a stable supply of electricity. Through this project, JERA will contribute to further strengthening the power supply system and develop a new energy solution model utilizing renewable energy generation facilities and storage batteries.

JERA, by providing solutions to regional and local issues in Japan from an energy sector perspective and by conducting business with respect for the nature, history, culture, and customs of each country and region where it operates, will contribute to the development of society as a whole.
