Submission of the Primary Environmental Impact Consideration Document for the Happo Town and Noshiro City Offshore Wind Power Generation Project2022/01/27

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) plans to develop an offshore wind power generation project (the “Project”) off the town of Happo and the city of Noshiro in Akita Prefecture, Japan, and today submitted its Primary Environmental Impact Consideration Document for the Happo Town and Noshiro City Offshore Wind Power Generation Project¹ (the “Document”) to the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

JERA believes that the favorable wind conditions and shallow seabed off Happo and Noshiro make the area suitable for the development of bottom-fixed offshore wind power generation.

The Project will be located off the coast of Happo Town and Noshiro City and include as many as 30 wind turbines with a maximum generation capacity of 356MW.

As JERA aims to become a global leader in renewable energy, it has participated in offshore wind projects in the U.K. and Taiwan. JERA will apply the experience and expertise gained in the construction and operation of such large-scale offshore wind projects to the current Project.

The Document summarizes the results of deliberations concerning environmental conservation issues to be considered at the project planning stage. On 28 January the Document will be posted to JERA’s website and be made available for public review at the administrative agencies listed in Attachment 2.

People with opinions about the Document from an environmental conservation standpoint are invited to submit them via post to the address listed in Attachment 2 or to drop them in boxes available at the public review locations.

JERA will continue to move the Project forward under the guidance of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry and other related authorities, giving due consideration to the opinions of other stakeholders.
