Donation to Atsuma Town’s “Local Production for Local Protection” Sixth-Order Industry Energy Project thorough the Corporate Version of the Hometown Tax2021/03/19

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) today donated, through the corporate version of the Hometown Tax, 740 million yen to a “local production for local protection” sixth-order industry energy project in the town of Atsuma in Yufutsu District, Hokkaido1 (the “Project”).

Given its experience sustaining serious damage during the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake of September 2018, Atsuma is seeking to strengthen its disaster management capabilities. The Project aims to promote local energy production for local consumption and to utilize locally-produced energy for local disaster management by installing renewable energy power generation equipment and storage batteries in public facilities and by practicing energy management.

JERA was entrusted by Atsuma with carrying out basic planning for the Project between December 2019 and March 2020, and in the course of its discussions and deliberations with the town came to share a deeper understanding of its concept for using locally-produced energy in its disaster management planning.

Against this background, JERA approves of Atsuma’s initiative and decided to support the Project with a donation through the corporate version of the Hometown Tax.

JERA will continue to develop its business with respect for the countries and regions in which it operates as well as for their nature, history, culture, and customs while also contributing to the development of society as a whole through social contribution activities that are tailored to local conditions.

1 The Project is based on the town of Atsuma’s local economic revitalization plan as approved by the Cabinet Office under the Act for Overcoming Population Decline and Vitalizing Local Economies.
