Commencement of Consulting Project Related to Electricity Facility Improvements in Yangon, Myanmar2018/03/19

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) today began consulting work related to electricity distribution network improvements in Yangon as commissioned by the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (“YESC”).

Myanmar is experiencing rapid economic growth and demand for electricity is expected to increase significantly in the future. Improving electricity facilities is essential to ensuring a stable supply of electricity. The Power Distribution Improvement Project in Yangon Phase 1 will work to improve the distribution network by reinforcing distribution substations and expanding distribution lines to improve the reliability of electricity supply in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city. Yen loans are provided as part of this project.

On 31 January 2018, JERA signed a consulting agreement for this project with YESC. Over the next four years, JERA will provide consulting services related to distribution network design, bidding procedures, and construction management.

JERA will contribute to the stable supply of electricity in Myanmar by utilizing the experience and know-how it has cultivated through electricity transmission and distribution network improvements in the energy infrastructure business in Japan and overseas. In addition, in order to contribute to the development of infrastructure to support reliable, economical and sustainable access to electric power overseas. JERA is engaging in overseas consulting focusing on developing countries in Asia and Africa.
