Ichthys LNG Project AUSTRALIA

The Ichthys LNG Project is a project led by INPEX alongside one of the world’s major oil companies, France’s TOTAL developing a gas and condensate field off the shore of Western Australia. This is the first time a Japanese corporation is acting as the operator, taking the lead in a large-scale LNG development project.

Through its Australian subsidiaries, Chubu Electric Power Company ("Chubu") acquired 0.735% participating interest in the development of the Ichthys gas-condensate field and in the exploration permit, and shares in the liquefaction company Ichthys LNG Pty Ltd (hereinafter referred to as “Ichthys LNG”) in 2012.
A purchasing contract for 1.54 million tons of LNG per year over 15 years was also agreed upon. JERA succeeded to this project from Chubu in July 2016.
