JERA to Migrate All Mission Critical Systems to Microsoft Azure2020/03/26

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) will migrate its mission critical systems1, including its ERP system2 to Microsoft Azure3. Energy companies requires system stability, and  JERA is the first in Japan to move all its mission critical systems to the cloud.

 

As one of the world's leading energy companies, JERA’s business extends around the globe and is supported by a wide range of systems, including for the formulation of investment strategies for overseas power generation businesses, for the optimization of fuel procurement, and for advanced maintenance in managing domestic thermal power plant facilities. Moving such mission critical systems to the cloud Group-wide while maintaining an appropriate level of security will enable JERA to expand its business further by responding more quickly and flexibly and lowering system costs. Given the scope and scale of JERA’s business, it is adopting Microsoft Azure for both its scale,  which has been announced in 58 global regions, in addition to its global support structure.

 

By migrating all mission critical systems to the cloud, JERA will promote its digital transformation4 by cultivating IT talent globally and gaining expertise in speedy migration.

 

 

1 Mission critical systems: Information systems that support social infrastructure requiring extremely high reliability and availability. Major systems for energy companies that must operate non-stop 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

 

2 ERP system: An enterprise resource planning system that manages an enterprise’s data in an integrated database that enables it to be applied toward management strategy.

            

3 Microsoft Azure: A comprehensive set of cloud services that developers and IT professionals can use to  build, deploy, and manage applications through Microsoft's global network data center. Furthermore, integrated tools, DevOps, and marketplaces make it possible to efficiently build various functions from  simple mobile apps to internet-scale solutions.

 

4 Digital transformation (DX): Using advanced technology to restructure management and business  processes, not just to change technology but to transform the company and its employees through the processes of "digitization, streamlining, standardization, organization, and optimization."
