Safety Measure of LNG TerminalOur Company / Approach to safety

LNG Leakage Prevention, Early Detection, and Leakage-Spread Prevention

At our LNG terminals, in preparation for the unlikely event of an LNG leakage, safety measures are being implemented based on the following 3 concepts: (1) leakage prevention, (2) early detection of leakage, and (3) preventing leakage from spreading.
For example, in order to detect leakage at an early stage, gas detectors, etc., are installed and centralized monitoring is conducted in the central control room.
We have been operating safely for over 40 years since the introduction of LNG. We strive to further strengthen our safety measures and take all possible measures in our operation.

Leakage Prevention
  • Selection of materials resistant to cryogenic temperatures and active adoption of welded structures
Early Detection of Leakage
  • Installation of gas detectors, low temperature detectors, and on-site monitoring cameras
  • In the central control room, constantly monitoring information from these devices
Leakage Spread Prevention
  • Installation of barriers around ground tanks
  • Installation of vaporization control facilities (Hi-Ex Facilities), leakage gas diffusion facilities (water curtains), etc.
Considerations in Handling Fire
  • Adoption of explosion-proof structures for electrical equipment around LNG handling facilities
  • Restriction of fire use by establishing controlled areas (including specially controlled areas)

Comprehensive Disaster Prevention Panel

Comprehensive Disaster Prevention Panel
A comprehensive disaster prevention panel has been installed in the central control room, enabling continuous monitoring of the gas detectors, low temperature detectors, monitoring cameras, etc., and the operation of water curtains, sprinkler water-supply facilities, powder fire extinguisher system, etc., at once.

Liquid Collecting Tank

Liquid Collecting Tank
In the event of any leakage, liquid collection tanks are installed around the LNG tank to prevent LNG leakage from spreading.

Fire Extinguishing Pump

Fire Extinguishing Pump
A large-capacity fire pump is installed in preparation for the unlikely event of a fire. Pumps are usually motorized, but it can be backed up by diesel engines. A dry powder fire track with high mobility has also been deployed.

Water Curtain

Water Curtain
In preparation for the unlikely event of a gas leakage or fire, water curtain facilities have been installed to reduce diffusion of leaked gas and radiant heat from fire.
