Phu My Gas Thermal IPP Project VIETNAM

Tokyo Electric Power Company (since renamed and referred to herein as “TEPCO”), Sumitomo Corporation, and Electricite de France (EDF) as a consortium of the three companies won the bid on the Vietnam government’s internationally competitive bid for this project, which is Vietnam’s first 100% foreign-capital funded BOT system1 private sector power generation project. After concluding the project contract in September 2001, the Mekong Energy Company was established to develop the project, and a 715MW combined-cycle gas turbine thermal power plant was constructed on the coast 50 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City.
This project supplies electricity to Vietnam Electricity (EVN) over 20 years based on a long-term power purchase agreement. Since the start of commercial operations in 2005, it has played a major role as a supplier to southern Vietnam with Ho Chi Minh City at the core.
JERA succeeded to this project from TEPCO Fuel & Power in July 2016.

1BOT system (Build, Operate, and Transfer) refers to the system in which a private sector corporation builds a power generation plant (Build) that is maintained, managed, and operated (Operate), and when the project is finished the rights of ownership are transferred to a public sector facility operator (Transfer).
